Pioneering Alaska Heli-Skiing: 30 Years in the Tordrillo Range

By Mike Overcast · 2025-01-01

How three decades of avalanche safety forecasting, floatplane reconnaissance, and Eurocopter A-Star inserts built Alaska's premier powder tenure.

Pioneering Alaska Heli-Skiing in the Tordrillo Range

When we first flew over Judd Lake 30 years ago, we saw a wilderness of untracked spine walls, glaciated couloirs, and deep maritime powder that defied imagination. Today, Tordrillo Mountain Lodge operates over 1.2 million acres of private tenure, supported by precision-maintained Eurocopter AS350 B3 A-Star helicopters and IFMGA-certified guides.

The Maritime Snowpack Advantage

Positioned where Cook Inlet storms collide with the 7,500-foot peaks of the Alaska Range, the snowpack bonds securely to steep alpine faces. This allows our guests to safely carve 3,000+ vertical foot lines in conditions found nowhere else on earth.

Standard Equipment & Safety
